The DZS offers dozens of ways for individuals to learn about wildlife and the natural world, thanks to the generous support of individuals, companies and foundations. Day at the Zoo is a donor-funded education program that allows local students, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, to explore the Detroit Zoo and enjoy customized learning activities free of charge. Charitable giving has also allowed Summer Nature Camp at the Belle Isle Nature Center to flourish. This day camp provides enriching experiences in nature, art, literacy and math while meeting the social and developmental needs of campers. Generous contributions allow the DZS to offer these camps free of charge, and priority registration is given to families with a demonstrated financial need. Nature Tots at the Belle Isle Nature Center is a wildly popular workshop for children ages 2-4 and their adult caregiver. It is designed to encourage families to enjoy the great outdoors together and explore the natural world through storytelling and games. Attendance more than doubled in 2017 and, thanks to generous donors, the program is expanding to other locations. Thank you for helping the Detroit Zoological Society instill a sense of wonder, a hunger to discover and a passion for wildlife and wild places among the children and families who are served by these programs.
