Habitat 66 - Summer 2022

2 As the winter snow has now melted and the spring rains have dried, I’m excited to announce that summer events are returning to the Detroit Zoo! After two years of staying indoors and connecting over phone calls and computer screens, I couldn’t be happier to welcome guests back for in-person events this season. We could all use some levity and socialization, and why not get it with a side order of Vitamin Z? The Zoo is the best place to get out and have fun surrounded by your favorite animals. From the prehistoric creatures of Dinosauria to the feathered friends of Zoo Brew , there is something for every person, of every age and walk of life, this summer at the Detroit Zoo. In this issue of Habitat , you will read all about our upcoming events and the fun that awaits you here. DZS team members, volunteers and docents all work incredibly hard to produce these events for the community. They spend countless hours planning and executing every detail to ensure our events are unique, thrilling and welcoming to all. If you are at one of our events and need assistance, don’t hesitate to seek out a team member, who can help you find everything from mobility aids to KultureCity bags, which contain items to help those experiencing sensory overload. The DZS is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. I can’t thank the team enough, and I can’t wait for you to experience the outcome of their hard work at our one-of-a-kind events. Whether you are taking on a special mission at Sunset at the Zoo or Running Wild at our annual 5K event, I hope to see your smiling faces at the Zoo this summer. Remember, your participation shows your commitment to Celebrating and Saving Wildlife and Wild Places and helps us to advance conservation, animal welfare, education and environmental sustainability.
