Take a photo and send it to education@dzs.org with the subject line “Be Kind to Animals”. Be sure to include your name and permission for the Zoo to use your photos. Images without watermarks may be considered for sharing in social media; credit will be provided to the photographer. Feel free to share your photos with your own social media followers – tag @detroitzoo and use the hashtag #BeKindToAnimals to share your adventures! • Help take care of your companion animals – feed them at mealtime, give them fresh water daily and brush them regularly. • Donate items to your local animal shelter. You can often find a wish list on their website. • Walk a dog or spend time with a cat at your local animal shelter. • Cover pinecones with a minimal amount of peanut/sunflower butter, roll them in bird seed, then place them outside on branches or hang using biodegradable twine. • Spend some time walking, playing, petting or cuddling with your dog or cat. • Make a puzzle feeder for a cat or dog. You can find lots of ideas online. • Learn how to clicker train with your companion animal. • Use a cruelty-free product. • Place homemade decals on your windows to protect birds. • Observe wildlife from a distance. Take a photo of an animal or an animal’s tracks that you find in your neighborhood. • Read a book about how to help animals. • Be creative and come up with your own ideas!
